I go where I'm invited, Graeme.

But I do agree that Shepway has a lovely coastline. My home overlooks Hythe Bay and on clear days I can see France. The sea and the sky have a seemingly endless combination of blues, greens, silver and greys with spectacular sunrise and sunsets. My favourite view is the silver path thrown across the sea by a full moon.

I can think of three chairman events where I've been by the sea - the lifeboat in Dungeness, the beach at Dymchurch and the girlguides in Folkestone.

The sea gives Shepway a real sense of space and provides a great playground for all sorts of sports and leisure activities.

Whilst I'm pleased to note this and all the other activities you have been involved in this past year, one thing I can't help noticing, that you wouldn't guess you exist in a seaside town.

Every time I have ever come into contact with Shepway and it's guardians I never cease to be amazed at just how 'sea blind' you all are...

2/3rds of this areas hinterland is the sea. Yet still the region has the worse access to the water and makes the most limited use of the very reason the towns came into being in the first place.

Ever get the feeling your wasting your time?

Dear Susan
First of all I would like to congratulate you on your excellent blog it is a splendid way of letting people know of some of the things that the Chairman of the District Council gets involved in. The chairman will get invited to all manner of events throughout the county and beyond it is always difficult to sort priorities. I am particularly pleased to see that you are giving priority to the events within the district of Shepway. An enormous amount of voluntary work goes on within the district people give up a great deal of their time in the service of the community in so many different ways. I know that the presence of the Chairman of Shepway is very much appreciated and helps people to feel valued in the work that they do.

It was a delight to see you in Dymchurch for the Romney Marsh Scout AGM,here is a good example of a group of people who give an incredible amount of time in the service of young people.
I wish you well in all you do for the people of shepway and I hope that you enjoy the high office to which you have been appointed.
Best wishes
Terry

How can you R4F people be so smug at your 'acheivement' in getting fast rail services for Folkestone central and Folkestone West (2 minutes apart) when you abjectly failed to deliver for the travellers of Hythe and the Elham Valley in getting a service from Sandling? Remember, there are thousands of disappointed Council Tax payers in these areas just waitng for a chance to give our verdict on your performance at the next election!

This was a great day for Hythe. Made me realize how historic the town is. In the great chamber of the Town Hall names of the mayors extend back through several hundred years. Several ancient names are repeated including that of the Deedes' family.

Many of us felt very dressed up in our finery (mainly wedding outfits getting an extra airing!). The hat idea was fun once we accomodated to it.
